In Norfolk, Va., a Navy plane conducting night landing exercises collided with another plane last Sunday night on the flight deck of the USS Enterprise. The Navy searched the Atlantic for the six missing fliers who ejected, two from an S-3 Viking and a crew of four from an EA6B Crowler. gets federal funding California's Alameda County officials have declared a state of emergency over the spread of the AIDS virus among blacks. County supervisors hoped to improve the county's chance for federal funding. The Congressional Black Caucus has asked that a national state of emergency be declared over the AIDS crisis among blacks. Hurricane Mitch hits Florida crops

Last week, tropical storm Mitch ravaged thousands of acres of southern Florida crops with as much as 10 inches of rain, causing an estimated $20 million in crop damage in one county alone. Agricultural experts say sweet corn was hit hard and newly planted sugar cane could be lost. "It will take some time to see the extent of the damage since the area is fairly inundated with water," Rep. Mark Foley, R.-Fla., said Saturday. Mitch killed 10,000 in Central America before soaking Florida and killing two Floridians.

International Space Station project begins soon

Sixteen countries will work together for the most complex global engineering and scientific feat ever attempted, the building of the International Space Station. NASA's next shuttle mission on the space shuttle Endeavour will be the first of 34 U.S. trips to help complete the $50 billion station by 2004. ''It's a jam-packed flight and the beginning of a new era in space exploration,'' says Bob Cabana, commander of the Endeavour. It all begins on Nov. 20 with the launch from Kazakhstan, a former Soviet republic, of a Russian-built, U.S.-financed power module on an unmanned Russian rocket.
